Prepare before your flight
- Verify visa conditions, any required permits, health rules, hotel bookings and airport transfers for your dates. Check official Nusuk guidance rather than relying on old social-media posts.
- Learn the route's miqat arrangements before boarding. Keep ihram essentials in hand luggage and ask your scholar about any personal circumstances.
Ihram and intention
- Enter ihram for Umrah at or before the relevant miqat, make the intention and recite the talbiyah. Wearing the clothing alone is not the same as entering the state of ihram.
- Learn the restrictions of ihram beforehand, including perfume and hair or nail cutting. Clothing rules and exceptions differ; obtain guidance that applies to you.
Tawaf around the Kaaba
- Tawaf consists of seven circuits with the Kaaba on your left, starting in line with the Black Stone. Follow the marked direction and do not push through crowds to reach the stone.
- Make dhikr and personal supplications while keeping track of the circuits. After tawaf, pray the two rak'ahs in a safe permitted place without blocking the flow, following your scholar's guidance.
Sa'i between Safa and Marwa
- Begin at Safa and complete seven one-way journeys, finishing at Marwa. Safa to Marwa counts as one journey; the return counts as the second.
- Move at a safe pace, follow the designated paths and ask about mobility assistance if needed. Learn the specific practices from a qualified guide rather than rushing to copy others.
Hair cutting and completion
- Hair shaving or trimming completes the rites and allows release from ihram. The method differs for men and women; confirm the correct amount and method with your scholar.
- Use a licensed barber and a fresh blade where applicable. Rest after the rites, stay in touch with your group and respect the mosque's rules during further worship.
